Planning
The new curriculum documents (2010) have shifted the HPE instruction so that the approach is in developing the physical and health literacy of students. This is reflected in the five fundamental principles on which the new curriculum is based.
1. Health and physical education programs are most effective when school staff, families, and communities support the students' learning.
2. Physical activity is the key vehicle for student learning.
3. Physical and emotional safety is a precondition for effective learning in health and physical education.
4. learning in health and physical education is student-centered and skill-based.

Lesson Plans
Creating lesson plans are very important, they are legal documents that can be used in a court of law. They show how the teacher has addressed curriculum expectations, teaching strategies, assessment methods, safety concerns and what considerations have been made for inclusion of all students.
